Topic 1: Yoga as a Spiritual Practice
Using the Iyengar Method we will explore how alignment,
self-awareness, kindness, non-grasping and passion can broaden the scope
of our yoga practice. Reflection on the yamas and niyamas, mindfulness,
and pranayama will be included.

Topic 2: Yoga for a Healthy Back
The seminar will include sequences for the relief of low back, neck and shoulders,
and sacroiliac joint pain.
You will learn how:

To take care of your back when experiencing pain
- Safe
ways to improve flexibility in the hips and shoulders
- Fundamental
poses to improve posture
- Ways
to build strength
Guidance
will be given on how to relax and use the breath as a healing tool. The
content of each session will vary and include a combination of lecture,
breathing practice, dynamic stretching and restoration. Techniques presented
are from the Iyengar method.

Topic 3: Yoga for Special Needs
A seminar for yoga teachers and health care providers
to learn how to apply the Iyengar Method of yoga to serve special populations.
Primarily focused on yoga for MS based on the National Yoga for MS Program
designed by Eric Small.

Topic 4: Living With Vitality
The practice of yoga, asanas (postures) and pranayama
(breath control) with a focus on maintaining flexibility, stimulating organ
function, altering the course of arthritis, and accepting and renewing the
wonder of life.

Topic 5: Yoga and the Organic Body
Using the Iyengar Method, we will study how the organ systems are released, nourished and stimulated through pose alignment and the effective use of the five organs of action.

1) Working the Psoas Muscle - the key to excellent posture & backbends.
2) The Physics of Yoga: Teaching the Overly Stiff or Overly Flexible Student - we will explore ways to work the poses with and without resistence.
3) The Art of Pranayama (Breath Exercise) - theory and practice.
4) The Sacroilliac Joint - learn to understand, release, stabilize and protect your SI joint. Recommended practice sequences included.
5) Living With Scoliosis - both teachers and students will learn how to evaluate weak and strong muscles and choose poses to improve overall freedom and function.
