I'm new to yoga, what class should I take?
If you have never done yoga before, I would choose any of the classes titled 'Intro to Yoga'. If you have some familiarity with the basics of yoga, you may consider the 'Back Care' or the 'Level 1' classes.
When I enroll in a series, do I have to pre-register and is there any expiration date?
No pre-registration is necessary, you may start at any time. All series have an expiration date. If you sign up for a 12 class series in 14 weeks, then you must
take your classes during that period. However, you can re-enroll
at any time, choosing to attend two or more classes per week.
New students who purchase a 12 class series at the close of
their first class will receive a discount of 10%.
Do you have a drop-in rate?
You may attend any class at Lighten Up for $15.
I am on a limited budget, what are my payment options?
We have simple monthly payment plans that will easily fit into your budget and we also have occasional work-study positions available. Please call or e-mail us for more information.
We accept cash and checks as well as Visa and Mastercard. Gift certificates are also available for purchase in any denomination.
If I sign up for a class and miss class what should I do?
Try to attend another class that week. Or, treat yourself the
following week and take an additional class. Our schedule is
flexible: you may take any class at any time.
What should I do if I experience soreness after class?
You may be surprised to find less soreness than you thought. It
is because yoga oxygenates the body. If you experience soreness,
try reproducing the poses the very next day. This will stimulate
your circulation to remove toxins and regenerate. Also, drink
plenty of water to enhance the cleansing action yoga brings to
your body.
Do I need to practice at home?
"We recommend you attend class at least once a week and practice
every day." Start
with a 5-minute practice using one or more
poses.
Ask your instructor for more tips on your individual home
practice needs.
What should I wear to class?
Please wear tights or bike shorts and a clean t-shirt. Please do
not wear baggie
pants or bell bottoms to class. In order to
practice yoga safely, alignment is important.
To help your
teacher to help you and to help yourself you will need to be
able to see your knees.
Please avoid the use of
perfumes or colognes during class.
We breathe deeply in class
and clear air is essential.
Do I need to bring my own mat?
We
have plenty of props available to use during class or you may bring your own. If you would
like to purchase your own yoga gear, check out what's available
in the bookstore area of the center.
When should I arrive for class?
For the best results, arrive for class 10-15 minutes before
class begins.
This will help you have time to sign-in and prepare for a
transition to a more yogic state of mind.
Do I have to change my diet?
It
is not necessary to change your diet. However, as your practice
becomes more regular, you will seek out foods that will augment
the healing process received through yoga.
Will Yoga conflict with my religion?
No. Yoga is an ancient philosophy, art, science and a practice
for better living. Yoga is about connecting with our essencial nature and living from the heart. The ethical and moral principles of all great religions are reflected in yoga.
