Teacher Training 200 Hour Program
1.Why is this training your best choice?
The importance of a well-organized program that puts safety first cannot be underestimated. Regardless of which style of yoga you are most fond of, having a solid foundation in alignment, anatomy, physiology and the principles of yoga are a necessity. Our comprehensive program provides an introduction to the Iyengar Method and prepares graduates to lead safe and effective classes in their communities. Methods to adapt postures for pregnant woman, older clients and clients with therapeutic needs will also be covered. Our graduates are widely respected around the southeast, and receive a supportive and nurturing education in Yoga as a Healing Art.
2. How can I make the training affordable?
Once accepted into the program you will be asked to make 6 payments, one at each of the first 6 weekends of $325, after your deposit of $150 is received. If you prefer you can make those payments over 9 months by paying $222 per month. It will be your responsibility to send your payment to Lighten Up Yoga at the first of each month. Register before Feburary 1st or with a friend and you payments can be lower.
3. What is the anticipated cost of books?
We would appreciate very much if you would purchase your books through the studio. In 2009 we will be extending to participants a 10% discount on all books and props. Plan on approximately $250-300 for books and props. You will not need to purchase required books at one time. Please visit

5. If I enroll in the 200 Hour basic training do I have to take electives?
Not right away. You can enroll in the basic training which includes the 9 core curriculum weekends and graduate with a 200 hr Yoga Alliance Registration. If you intend to continue your training to the 500 hr level then you will need to gather your 50 hrs of approved electives to fulfill the pre-requisites for the 500 hr training.
6. What if I have taken workshops before your training that I wish to apply toward my elective requirements for the 500 hr course?
Simply document the workshop location, dates, times, instructor and subject matter. If you saved a flyer, enclose a copy. Send all information to be considered into Lighten Up along with your registration.

Teacher Training 500 Hour Program
1. Can I enroll in the 500 hr program before completing the 200 hr program?
Yes, you may enroll in the 500 hr course at a discount prior to the end of your 200 hr course. However due to the elective requirements and the time over lap of the two programs, you will need to complete the 200 hour program before beginning the 500.
2. My 200 hr certification is from another Yoga Alliance Registered School. What should I do?
Please indicate on your application if you attended a yoga school that offered training in alignment principles. If you have no experience with those principles then you will be asked to attend the pre-requisite weekends offered at Lighten Up. Otherwise check with your school and find out how many contact hours your program consisted of. You will need a total of 230 contact hours to meet the pre-requisite requirements for the Lighten Up 500 Hour Program.
3. What if I only have 180 contact hours from my previous training can I still apply?
Yes you can. You will be asked to pick up the contact hours you need by attending the pre-requisite weekends offered at Lighten Up.
4. Can workshops I have taken since the completion of my 200 hr training be applied toward the 500 hour pre-requisite?
Yes they can. Simply document the workshop location, dates, times, instructor and subject matter. If you saved a flyer, enclose a copy. Send all information to be considered in to Lighten Up along with your registration application and deposit. The director will then determine the best course of action and contact you.
5. When can I begin acquiring my pre-requisite electives for the 500 Hour program?
The 500 hr electives program is open to your design. You can begin taking electives at any time. Please choose workshops that are alignment based. You will be asked to fulfill at least one of your pre-requisite electives at Lighten up.
